Community Education Marketing Specialist Part Time

The Community Education Marketing Specialist furthers the mission and vision of the Community Education Department through the ongoing development and implementation of a coordinated, department-wide marketing plan. This includes content production, social media, digital, print, and special event efforts.  This position works under the direction of the Community Education Director and in close consultation with the Enrichment & Marketing Manager to develop and deliver a consistent brand message with the aim of attracting and retaining customers and students as well as recruiting program staff.

WHAT YOU’LL BE WORKING ON:

• Vision and Mission – In collaboration with the Director of Community Education, Enrichment & Marketing Manager, Extended School Services Manager and others, fulfills the goals, objectives and action plans that are supportive of the department and aligned to the District’s mission, vision and strategic plan.
  • Supports the development of an annual, seasonal and monthly marketing plan incorporating content production, social media, digital media, print media and special events. Emphasis is placed on engaging all members of the Lakeville Area community, keeping in mind cultural, linguistic and economic diversity.
• Personnel
  • Supports the Enrichment & Marketing Manager in marketing related duties.
• Operations
  • Supports the Enrichment & Marketing Manager in documenting, implementing and sharing marketing related processes and procedures to ensure compliance with District policies, governmental laws and regulations and aligned to the District’s brand standards
• Finance
  • Contributes to marketing aspects of budgets development for the Director and Managers.
  • Coordinates the purchase of services, supplies, promotional items, and equipment as well as oversees the use, organization and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
• Marketing – In consultation with the Director and Enrichment & Marketing Manager, develops and implements an effective and multi-channel Department marketing effort based upon research and data:
  • Content production
    • Creates high quality content for a variety of audiences and purposes including newsletters, websites, media releases, presentations, email, video, and social media.
    • Edits and proofreads content for accuracy, consistency, clarity and style.
    • Captures photo and video of activities, programs and services including specific coverage of each Extended School Services site.
  • Social media
    • Coordinates and implements a social media strategy covering specific programs, with a focus on Extended School Services.
    • Promotes a consistent Department brand across programs and platforms, remaining aligned with the District’s overall brand.
  • Digital media
    • Updates department website content and organizes site navigation and architecture.
    • Designs graphics for digital displays and on-demand video (IPTV).
    • Produces email marketing and maintains accurate contact lists
    • Improves department reach through search engine optimization.
  • Print media
    • Designs flyers, posters, and mailing pieces and coordinates distribution throughout the community.
    • Under the guidance of the Enrichment & Marketing Manager, assists with the production of the Department print catalog including coordination with advertisers, printers, and the Post Office.
  • Special events
    • Collaborates on planning and implementing Department and District sponsored special events such as the Activities & Sports Festival and Ready, Set, Achieve.
    • Coordinates and participates in Department representation at community special events such as the Chamber of Commerce Expo, Park & Rec Free Family Fun Fest, Pan-O-Prog, Fire Rescue Days, etc.
• Collaboration – In collaboration with the Director and Enrichment & Marketing Manager, develops a Department brand message.
  • Collaborates with the District’s Communications/Public Relations Department to align marketing and communication functions to support the needs of the Community Education Department and District.
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with students, parents, community members, program staff, and District staff in order to provide services.
  • Advises department staff on methods to improve marketing in a culturally responsive manner.
  • Monitors Department communication channels for customer and community input, feedback and questions, then routes to appropriate staff for response.
• Development
  • Strives to become knowledgeable in all aspects of the Community Education Department.
  • Seeks out and identifies opportunities for ongoing professional development of self, including staying up to date on current marketing trends.
  • Contributes as a member of a Department Professional Learning Community.
  • Provides training and technical assistance to other Department staff related to content creation, social media, digital media, print media and special events.
  • Attends meetings and professional development related to job responsibilities and Department operations.
• Reporting
  • Compiles, maintains, analyzes and reports information to measure the effectiveness of marketing efforts including social media and website analytics.
  • Maintains an up to date accounting and reporting of time, location and work completed.
• Performs other duties as needed or assigned by the Director.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

• B.A. or B.S. Degree in marketing, public relations, journalism, communications, or related field is preferred.
• Two years of related professional experience.
• Verbal and written proficiency in a second language is preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with varied stakeholders (e.g. students, parents, community members, program staff, and District).
• Excellent verbal, written and electronic skills including proficiency in AP Style and excellent command of grammar, sentence structure and spelling.
• Pays high attention to detail and organization.
• Ability to investigate issues, problem solve, make decisions and multi-task.
• Proficient with photo and video production.
• Excellent project management and organization skills with an ability to self direct.
• Proficient using social media platforms on an organizational level including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and NextDoor.
• Familiarity with a variety of software applications such as Adobe Creative Suite, CRM Software, web content management systems, Hootsuite/Social Media Management, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite, Final Cut Pro.
• Proven record of reporting to work on a regular and punctual basis.

HOURS / SCHEDULE: This is a part-time (27.5 hours per week), year-round position. The position has a flexible schedule to meet Department priorities and events at various district locations, including occasionally covering programming that may occur on evenings and weekends. Most on-site work will be completed at the Juniper Path Building Office, Crystal Lake Education Center and elementary school sites.
